Toscana or Tuscany?
Ever seen the word Toscana and wondered what it meant? It seems to be based on the word Tuscany, but what is the difference?
Tuscany is a region located in Italy and is famous for its art and landscapes. Florence is the capital of the area, and the region also contains the famous province called Pisa (Leaning Tower of Pisa anyone?).
Toscana is simply the way to refer to the region in Italian. "Tuscan" is another label given to items coming from or reflecting the region.
Italian Leather
It is said that leather categorized as Italian Leather does not necessary have to come from Italy, but the hide is eventually processed and tanned in Italy (thus becoming Italian Leather).
Why is Italian Leather Special?
Italian Leather is considered special by many because Italy has been famous for its leather and fashion for centuries. Many top names in fashion are home to Italy, so Italy's quality in leather has been made more famous by top brands. In many cases the hides are processed and inspected by hand helping to improve the quality of the product.
Italian Leather Shops
Because Tuscany (or Toscana) is famous for its art, history, and fashion, a number of leather products proudly display Tuscan, Tuscany, or Toscana as part of a brand name or description of the leather.
